In an email late Friday, X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced the launch of a new “video tab” feature (which, according to a source at X, resembles TikTok-style endless scrolling) and an X-exclusive reality series called The off-seasonstarring soccer star Midge Purce and produced by investor Alexis Ohanian.
The announcement came shortly after X partners and clients met at its New York office on Tuesday, while Yaccarino simultaneously works to retain advertisers and content creators – both of which are vital to the platform but are steadily losing ground due to the behavior of its owner, Elon Musk.
Yaccarino added that Purce and Ohanian came to the office to talk more about the upcoming premiere of The off-season – which is set to go live on October 18. X has signed content deals with creators like MrBeast and celebrities like Don Lemon as it looks to increase its focus on video and challenge YouTube as a video hosting platform.
The off-season is produced in association with reality TV producer Alex Baskin (who produced “Vanderpump Rules”) and Box to Box Films (“Drive to Survive”), along with Ohanian, according to Variety. The show focuses on 11 women's national soccer players during their offseason, living together in Miami for two weeks and offering “uncensored access to their personal stories, interpersonal relationships and on-field journeys.”
Yaccarino's email also claimed that exclusive new content and security improvements would soon be coming to the platform, along with an X TV app (which I previously reported was in the works).
