Former news anchor Brian Williams is reportedly in talks to host an Amazon Prime election night special diversity. Apparently the show was a “bipartisan discussion” as the election night news came in and could have included multiple guests.
Williams hasn't been in the news for a while. He lost his role as host of the NBC show Nightly news after it emerged that some of his reporting had been repeatedly whitewashed. He then hosted MSNBCs 11th hour until he left the network in 2021.
If the deal goes through, Williams would begin broadcasting the Nov. 5 presidential election as early as 5 p.m. ET and continue for up to eight hours — or longer if the election is too close, he writes Diversity, citing unnamed sources familiar with the conversations. The show reportedly didn't keep up with breaking news; Instead, Williams and his guests explained the events over the course of the night. And the show won't decide the race, they say The Daily Beast.
The deal is not final, diversity reported. His sources also warned that the news doesn't necessarily mean Amazon is planning regular newscasts.
