Amazon Prime members are getting a new benefit: additional savings at the pump. By linking your Amazon account to BP's loyalty program, you can save 10 cents per gallon when you fill up at a participating BP gas station. Incidentally, this is a discount similar to the one Walmart offers at Exxon locations through its Prime competitor Walmart Plus program.
Of course, you must agree to BP collecting information about you in order to receive your discount. But what’s the harm in joining just another loyalty program? And what if BP scales back its carbon emissions targets to maximize profits while the planet burns? Because there is no ethical consumption in capitalism and because everything is so damn expensive lately, I signed up for the discount. You link your Amazon Prime account to BP's sarcastically named Earnify rewards program by providing your phone number. Agree to a few terms and conditions and you're good to go.
It doesn't seem necessary to download BP's Earnify app to take advantage of the discount, but I did and was rewarded for it yet again with enough points to earn a free BBQ rib sandwich at ampm. What a time to be alive.
