Amazon’s Shark Tank-like Buy It Now gets a trailer

Amazon Prime has released a trailer for its spin Shark tank Concept: Buy It Now, a show hosted by JB Smoove where people pitch their product ideas to a panel of investors. The kicker is that they are also judged based on the “100,” which Amazon says is an audience of “potential customers” (aka “people”), and if their products are selected, Amazon sells them in one Special offer area of the store.

The company announced the show earlier this year, but has now released a trailer showing what it will look like. The participants present their ideas to the audience. If the audience votes for them, the panelists will choose which ones will appear in Amazon's Buy Now store: a new storefront that will open alongside the show and that viewers can access via a QR code that appears during the show episodes is displayed. One presenter per episode will also receive a prize of $20,000.

Aside from Smoove – who you may remember Curb your enthusiasm And Harley – The show will feature “a star-studded rotating panel of celebrity panelists,” including Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Anderson, Tabitha Brown, Tony Hawk and Christian Siriano. It will also feature three Amazon executives, and Jamie Siminoff, Ring founder and current CEO of Door.com (formerly Latch), will serve as a “resident judge and entrepreneurial panelist.”

Oh, and these panelists will be selling their own products in the Buy It Now store. So if you're looking for some of Paltrow's questionable Goop treatments, you know where to find them — or at least where to scan the QR code to find them if you're subscribed to Prime Video.

Is this show a smart move to get you to buy more stuff on Amazon? Absolutely. The advantage is that the products at least have understandable names and you know where they come from.

Buy It Now'S first three episodes Premiering on Amazon Prime on October 30th and running for 13 episodes until January 8th, 2025. A weekly behind-the-scenes companion podcast called This is Small Business: Behind the Purchasestarts the next day.
