Ford tells some EV customers to stop using its Tesla Supercharger adapter

Ford began offering free adapters to Tesla's Supercharger network to owners of its electric vehicles in February and is now asking some of its customers to stop using them, it says InsideEVs. The company has identified a “potential issue” that could result in “decreased charging speeds over time” or even damage to the charging port itself, according to a service bulletin it sent to those affected.

Ford electric vehicle owners should follow the link in Ford's announcement to ensure the correct address is on file. If this is the case, they don't need to do anything else to get their replacement. If not, the company says customers must update their address by October 24th.

Ford will ship a replacement adapter in the coming weeks and provide return shipping instructions for returning your existing adapter – both free of charge. It is imperative that we obtain all affected adapters to reduce the risk of possible vehicle damage.

Ford will reportedly begin shipping replacement adapters to customers the week of October 28th. Accordingly, only “a specific current batch” of Ford’s North American Charging Standard adapters is affected InsideEV. Both Rivian and General Motors told the outlet that they had not encountered similar problems with their own adapters.
