Ghost of Yotei is the next entry in Sucker Punch’s Ghosts series

At the end of Sony's State of Play presentation, Sucker Punch gave a first look at the next game in its award-winning Ghosts Series. Dubbed Spirit of YoteiPlayers take on the role of a new female protagonist named Atsu, who carries a shamisen in addition to the traditional samurai sword. According to the description in the trailer, Atsu travels through the wilderness around Mount Yotei accompanied by a mysterious wolf companion.

Sucker Punch Studios, the developers behind the Smart Cooper And Notorious Series, published Ghosts of Tsushima in 2020. The game was praised for its quiet, contemplative moments as well as its Akira Kurosawa-style samurai action. Earlier this year, Sucker Punch released a PC port of Tsushima and confirmed that a film based on the game is in the works, with John Wick Director Chad Stahelski was hired to direct the project.

In the blog post announcing the game, Sony stated: Spirit of Yotei was Sucker Punch's first game developed specifically for the PS5. According to the developers Spirit of Yotei offers the same beautiful observation moments as its predecessor, but also has new functions.

“We have huge sightlines that allow for sweeping views of the environment, all-new skies with sparkling stars and auroras, even more believable movements of wind on grass and vegetation,” said Andrew Goldfarb, communications manager at Sucker Punch. “Our new environment also gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements and even new weapons.”

Sony did not provide any details about the release date, only setting a release date for the game in 2025.
