Google’s taking the extra search box out of your search results

For years, Google has added an additional search box to some search results, encouraging you to browse further and only search within a specific website. But now the sitelink search box is disappearing because “usage has declined.”

It's been over ten years since we first announced the Sitelinks search box in Google Search, and over time we've seen usage decline. Therefore, and to simplify search results, we will remove this visual element starting November 21, 2024.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, it will probably make more sense when you see it:

Check out the little search box under the link The New York Times? That's what Google is taking away. You can use the feature as a shortcut to search for something in it The New York Times (or any other website that has it). After the November deadline, Google will no longer display the box in all languages and countries.

If I hadn't seen this announcement from Google, I probably wouldn't have noticed its disappearance since I barely used the thing. Overall, this is a smaller change among the many changes to Google's search engine, as it focuses on AI and reshuffles the team responsible for search.
