Now that Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT Ultimate Design in China, demonstration videos are surfacing online showing what the world's first dual-folding phone with three screens looks like in real-world conditions.
Several unboxing videos show that the Huawei Mate XT is delivered unfolded. At its thinnest point, it is only 3.6 mm (approx. 0.14 inches) thick – making it slimmer than Google's 5.1 mm (approx. 0.2 inches) Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Fully folded, the Mate XT measures 12.8 mm (approx. 0.5 inches), a tiny bit thicker than the 10.1 mm (approx. 0.39 inches) of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the 12.1 mm Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.
A practical test of Gizmodo China shows that the display can accommodate multiple app windows at once, which can be resized in custom configurations. The Mate XT also comes with a dedicated phone case that protects the device when folded and doubles as a kickstand to position it upright in both folded and unfolded states.
A small loading wheel can be seen briefly in some videos when the phone switches from single to dual-screen mode, but the display seems to be sufficiently responsive when switching between horizontal and vertical orientation. A noticeable criticism seen in a video shared by Android Authority is that the display creases on both hinges are very visible from certain angles and in certain lighting conditions, which some might find disappointing – although it's not surprising given the current state of foldable displays. When viewed directly, however, they seem barely noticeable.
