While there is no fix yet for chips that are already crashing, the company is now releasing microcode update 0x12B to motherboard makers to prevent one of the main causes of damage. In this case, it prevents the Intel CPU from drawing too much power when it is idle or performing light tasks. (Too much voltage can prematurely age a chip.)
According to Intel, it can take several weeks for motherboard manufacturers to validate and deploy BIOS updates to their products. But that doesn't mean you should wait. Previous BIOS updates include two previous Intel microcode fixes designed to prevent damage, as well as new power settings that can also reduce the risk.
Intel has not yet answered our questions about how many Raptor Lake chips are likely affected by these and other potential instability issues, or identified chip batches affected by an earlier oxidation issue, but we're asking again now.
