It may have been postponed until next year, but at least we now have a first look at Mickey 17. The debut trailer for the science fiction film – directed by parasite Director Bong Joon-ho and Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes – premieres Tuesday night. According to the trailer description, Barnes finds himself “in the extraordinary situation of working for an employer who demands the utmost devotion to the job… dying for a living.”
The film is based on the novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton, about “an expendable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world of Niflheim.” The book is about the seventh incarnation of the titular Mickey, but in the film he appears to die a few more times. Alongside Pattinson, the film also stars Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Thomas Turgoose.
Mickey 17 will be Joon-ho’s first film since parasite in 2019 and is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 31, 2025.
