Netflix is introducing a new feature called “Moments” that lets you save and share bookmarks at a specific point in a show or movie. The feature seems like a very useful way to share parts of something you're watching with friends or on social media.
To capture a moment, tap the screen while watching something on Netflix to reveal the various menu options. Then tap the new Moments button to bring up a new menu, then tap the Save button. In the Moments menu, you can also see other Moments you have saved for this show or movie and share Moments with different apps. You can also copy a link to the moment to your clipboard.
It's all pretty easy to use and I think a lot of people will share links to their favorite scenes in their group chats or on their social networks. I could also imagine Moments being used a lot as a personal bookmarking tool. Instead of searching YouTube to find the exact clip of a specific moment in a show that you want to watch again, you can simply watch it in your personal library of saved clips.
If you use Moments a lot, you probably don't need to worry about having too many of them. “The number of Moments you can save depends on the length of the content,” says spokesman Dorian Rosenburg The edge. “However, there is plenty of space to save your favorite moments, so most members won't have to worry about a limit when it comes to saving across multiple shows and movies.”
The ability to create Moments is rolling out globally on iOS today and will be available on Android in the “coming weeks.” According to Rosenburg, Netflix currently has no plans to bring the feature to the Internet or televisions. But in its blog post about the news, Netflix says: “Moments will hopefully be expanded in the future, offering members even more ways to use and enjoy the feature.”
