Samsung has just announced the special edition model of the Galaxy Z Fold. It's thinner and slightly lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 that recently launched, and features slightly larger displays inside and out, as well as a new stripe pattern on the back. There's also more storage for the Galaxy AI and an improved 200-megapixel wide-angle camera.
Great! Unfortunately, it was only announced for South Korea. It will be priced at KRW 2,789,600, or just over $2,000, when it goes on sale on Friday, October 25th. And it appears the only other release market will be China.
At 10.6mm and 236 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold SE is 1.5mm thinner and 3 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Storage is now standard at 16GB and the wide-angle sensor has been increased from 50 to 200 megapixels. The inner and outer displays are also slightly larger at 8.0 inches and 6.5 inches respectively (previously 7.6 and 6.3 inches). This means that the device can be held slightly higher and wider when folded or unfolded.
The changes are unlikely to address the concerns we had when testing the Galaxy Z Fold 6 this summer. There's still nothing here that's significantly different in a category of devices that Samsung pioneered. However, if you're looking for a good foldable device that's the best Samsung has to offer, then the Galaxy Z Fold SE is for you.
