Spotify has introduced a new feature that will keep playing your music even if your device goes offline unexpectedly. The app automatically generates an offline backup playlist of recently streamed and queued songs that have already been downloaded and cached. It “evolves” over time and adapts the playlist to your listening habits.
The streaming app already lets you download songs and playlists that can be played offline. However, this must be done manually as long as a data connection is available. Spotify offline backup is an alternative in case your internet connection drops unexpectedly or you turn it off intentionally, such as when you turn on airplane mode during a flight.
The offline backup playlist automatically appears in the Spotify app home feed every time a device goes offline. To do this, however, the app must already have offline playback enabled in the settings and you must have recently listened to more than five songs. The feature is also only available to premium subscribers as part of the global rollout.
The automatically generated playlist can be filtered and sorted by artist, mood and genre. According to Spotify, it changes and adapts to each listener's preferences as they use it, so it doesn't always offer the same songs. The offline backup can also be permanently added to your library if you particularly like the mix.
