Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris in response to fake AI Trump endorsement

Taylor Swift said Tuesday that she plans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in November's presidential election – and that AI-generated images of her in circulation partly prompted her to make her support public.

“I recently became aware that an AI was posted on his website in which 'I' falsely endorsed Donald Trump's candidacy for president. This really heightened my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “It made me realize that as a voter, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Her post refers to an incident in late August in which Trump shared a collection of images to Truth Social that were meant to show his support for his presidential campaign. Some of the photos depict “Swifties for Trump,” and another obviously AI-generated image shows Swift herself in an Uncle Sam-like image with the text “Taylor wants YOU to vote for Donald Trump.” The former president captioned the post, “I accept!”

In her supportive post, Swift also mentioned LGBTQ rights, reproductive care, and IVF as specific issues she cares about. She also directed her fans to her Instagram Story, where she added a link to voter registration.

Some AI companies have tightened restrictions on their tools to curb election-related misinformation. Google, for example, recently announced that it would limit election queries in AI Overviews, the company's AI-generated search results feature.
