The iPhone 17 might use Apple’s own Wi-Fi chips

Apple's road to making its own wireless chips has been a long one, but the end may be in sight. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posted on

Kuo also agrees 9to5Macs report that the iPhone SE 4, expected in spring 2025, will be the first device to use Apple's home-made 5G modem. He says that the SE will continue to use a third-party Wi-Fi chip from Broadcom and that the iPhone 17 will be the first device to use both an Apple-made modem and a Wi-Fi chip.

The budget-friendly iPhone SE series is about to get a serious upgrade, and it looks like Apple intends to add a lot more than just a new custom modem. According to rumors, it will be equipped with an OLED screen and Face ID for the first time and will support Apple Intelligence. But those aren't the only upgrades it could see: a higher price could also be on the horizon.
