Kindles are great, but if you want a portable e-reader that doesn't require you to commit to the Amazon ecosystem, then the Kindle is for you Boox Palma might be worth a look. The 6.1-inch e-book reader normally costs $279.99, but now through October 9th, readers of The edge can get a rare $30 discount and a free case (worth $16) when they purchase it with a code at Wellbots BOOXVERGE30.

My colleague David Pierce raved about the Palma after spending some time with it. I've only just started testing the e-reader, but so far I can understand the appeal. It's sleek and stylish in a way that the Kindle isn't, but more importantly, it's the size of a smartphone so you can really fit it in your pocket and hold it comfortably in one hand.
