VR artists can now buy Logitech’s pen-shaped Meta Quest controller

Logitech has released a pen-shaped Meta Quest controller that makes it easier to draw, sculpt and manipulate objects in mixed reality environments. After first being announced in June, the Logitech MX Ink pen is available today for $129.99 and can be paired with the Meta Quest 3S, Quest 3 and Quest 2 headsets via the Meta Quest app.

Using the MX Ink with 2D and 3D creative software should feel more comfortable and natural compared to the much bulkier Quest controllers, especially for artists more used to working with traditional drawing tablets. It's up to developers to make their apps compatible with the stylus. Support for Open Brush, Gravity Sketch and Adobe Substance 3D Modeler has already been announced.

Logitech says the MX Ink is the first device that allows the Meta Quest to support more than two paired controllers at once, working alongside the headset's native controllers. Users can switch between the two without interrupting their workflow, while still retaining familiar Quest controller functionality, such as double-tapping the Options button on the pen to mimic the “B” input.

Users can expect up to seven hours of battery life and have the option to charge the MX Ink via either USB-C or the inkwell charging station included in the more expensive $169.99 package. The pen is fairly chunky at 28.5 grams (about an ounce) and 18.1 mm (about 0.7 inches) wide, but it uses haptics and pressure sensitivity to emulate the feeling of using a real pen – albeit a thick one.
